The Function of Air Filter

Plenty of air is needed in the process of engine working; without filtration, the dust in the air will be absorbed into cylinder, which accelerate to wear out the cylinder and piston group. The big dust particles entering between cylinder and piston will seriously cause cylinder scoring, especially under the dry and sandy working condition. Air filter is fixed in front of carburetor or intake pipe, and is used to filtrate dust and sand grains to make sure enough and clear air.
As one of thousands of automotive components, air filter does not directly affect the technical performance but the service life in use. Absorbing too much dust and sand grains may cause serious abrasion, and if without maintenance for long time, the filter element would stick together with too much dust that may decrease the filtration capacity and block the air flowing, which generate too thick air mixture to make the engine abnormal work. So it is much too important to maintain the air filter regularly.
